About Punkto

Punkto (punkto.sk) is a free web app about public transport in Slovakia. It started as a map of city buses in Žilina and now brings the timetables of city networks, trains and regional buses together in one place.

What Punkto offers

  • Timetables, lines and stops of 47 city networks (1076 lines) and 875 railway stations.
  • ŽSR trains and their operators, regional and intercity buses.
  • Live departures and a journey planner with transfers.
  • A map, bike routes, weather and air quality.
  • Offline use: the app can be installed as a PWA and city timetables work without a connection.

Who runs it

  • Punkto is an independent project. It is not an official app of any carrier or city.
  • The data belongs to the carriers that publish it. Every line and stop page names the carrier and the date the timetable is valid until.

How the data is collected

  • Where a carrier publishes its timetable as GTFS (for example ŽSR trains and public regional sources) we use those files directly.
  • Most Slovak cities do not publish their city transport as open data. For those, our own harvesters read the timetables from publicly available sources (the national app ubian.sk and the public interface of the Žilina transport company) and assemble the city networks from them.
  • City networks we collect ourselves are refreshed continuously: every night the cities whose coverage is running out are collected again. The validity date of each source is listed on the Data sources page.
  • Every figure on line and stop pages (first and last departure, trips, interval) is computed from these timetables, not estimated.

What is not covered

  • Not every city is covered: of 52 city networks in the national register we hold 48 with pages of their own. Missing cities and towns with no separate timetable at the source are listed on the Data sources page.
  • City networks collected from outside only look about a month ahead; after that the collection has to be repeated.
  • Live departures and delays are available only where the source provides them.
  • The information is indicative; the official timetable of the carrier is what counts.
